Every Christian is called to give a reason for the hope within (1 Pet 3:15). This module lays the foundation for the whole course: what apologetics is, why Scripture commands it, and how the main schools of apologetics (classical, evidential, presuppositional and cumulative case) can work together in the hands of a Reformed believer.

You will learn the presuppositional approach of Cornelius Van Til and Greg Bahnsen, which argues that logic, morality and science only make sense if the God of the Bible exists. You will then learn the best-known evidential arguments for God (cosmological, contingency, fine-tuning and moral), and finally the historical case for the resurrection of Jesus, the event on which Paul said the whole faith stands or falls (1 Cor 15:14).

Throughout, remember the goal. We do not argue to score points but to remove obstacles, expose unbelief's foundations and point people to Christ. Only the Holy Spirit gives new birth, but he is pleased to use faithful, gentle, well-reasoned witness.
