The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has over 17 million members worldwide and a highly visible missionary programme. Its members use much of the same vocabulary as evangelical Christians, which can make conversations feel warm but confused. This module helps you understand the restoration story, the First Vision accounts, the Standard Works and the claim of a Great Apostasy.

At the heart of the differences is the doctrine of God. You will learn what LDS sources teach about God as an exalted man and humans' potential for exaltation, and how Scripture presents the one eternal, uncreated God. You will also learn to test the Book of Mormon and Book of Abraham by Scripture and history, presenting the church's own responses fairly.

Finally, the module turns to grace and the missionaries. You will learn how 2 Nephi 25:23 has been read and re-read, how to share justification by faith with assurance, and how to treat young missionaries with the kindness that former Latter-day Saints say made the difference.
